One of the main principle roles of the National Film, Sound and Photo archive in Vanuatu Cultural Centre since its establishment in 1960s has been to collect, preserve and promote the culture and history of Vanuatu. This has been done by the Vanuatu Cultural Centre Fieldworkers men and women including Film Unit staff who are also involved in the collections of audio-visual and photographs of cultural events throughout the country.

The National Film, Sound and Photo archive is the unit which has the main data regarding these important cultural collections of film, photo and audio recordings.  The film, sound and photo unit has its own catalogues where they put brief information about the recording stored, Title, Format, ID, name, description and date.   There is an audio and video catalogue in various formats spread out on Microsoft Excel program and a password is requested to get access.
